Year 10 and 11

Please download our latest booklet on our IGCSE Programme

In Year 10 and 11 students work towards IGCSEs. Each department chooses the best course in their subject: IGCSE in Maths, Science, English and English Literature, Geography, History and GCSE in all others. IGCSEs are examined through a mixture of written exams and (in a small number of subjects) coursework. All exams are taken at the end of Year 11 except Maths for Set 1, and a small number of language GCSEs for native speakers.

Most pupils take nine or ten GCSEs:

  • English (IGCSE in English Language and IGCSE in English Literature)
  • Mathematics
  • Sciences (all pupils study Biology, Chemistry and Physics, with the subjects taught and examined separately. The final result is presented as two IGCSE grades known as Double Award Science). A triple Award could also be achieved.
  • A modern foreign language or English as an Additional Language.
  • History
  • Geography
  • One of the following two: Art and Compter Science

The following modern languages are also available: Mandarin, German, Spanish and Italian. Other foreign language such as Russian and Japanese are also offered.  All of these languages will only be taught as a timetabled class with a minimum of four students. Otherwise, the courses will have to be charged separately.
